Victron Energy Deep Cycle GEL 130 Ah 12 V

The Victron 130 Ah deep cycle VRLA GEL lead-acid battery with advanced silicon gel electrolyte bonding technology offers a number of indisputable advantages over conventional liquid electrolyte accumulators. The most important are absolute maintenance-free life, low self-discharge rate, temperature stability, high resistance to deep discharge and subsequent rapid "recovery", reduced influence of vibrations and mechanical damage to gel-fixed plates, non-layered electrolyte with all negatives and low position of positions electrodes and sulfation.

Victron Energy gel batteries are designed for smaller photovoltaic solar applications of the Off-Grid type (island applications), for example, for powering huts and other objects out of reach of the seasonal electricity grid. OPzS, OPzV or lithium batteries with significantly higher cyclic resistance are then significantly more suitable for use in hybrid systems with daily cyclic operation.

VRLA technology
The universal abbreviation VRLA stands for Valve Regulated Lead Acid. The battery case is completely closed and without inspection holes for electrolyte inspection. Gas may only escape through safety pressure relief valves if the battery is severely overcharged or one or more cells are damaged. Electrolyte cannot be added to the battery.

Gel-bound electrolyte
The electrolyte is bonded by adhesive forces in capillaries of a silica gel which acts as a carrier. Along with the fixation of the plates in the gel, the batteries can also be stored on the side without reducing their service life or spilling the electrolyte out of the case. Due to the binding of the electrolyte in the gel and the non-corroding plastic housing, the risk of acid leakage is zero. Thanks to the closed construction, the escape of vapors is minimized, which predestines the batteries for use in living spaces (for example caravans).

Low self-discharge
With each battery, there is a natural process of self-discharge and a decrease in the amount of energy stored. The rate of self-discharge is an important information especially in systems with very long charging intervals or when storing the battery and not using it. Thanks to the use of high-purity materials and the enrichment of lead plates with calcium, the self-discharge process is minimized. The self-discharge rate is less than 2% of the total capacity per month at 20 ° C. Each 10 ° C increase in temperature doubles the self-discharge rate. If a fully charged battery is stored at low temperatures (not freezing), it may not be recharged in any way for approximately one year without damaging it.

Resistance to deep discharge
Any discharge will damage any lead-acid battery. The degree of damage is determined by the depth and duration of the discharge. Victron energy gel batteries are no exception. However, Victron energy gel batteries are extremely resistant to the effects of deep discharge and the effects of its long duration.

Discharge characteristics
Battery capacity is not stable. It depends mainly on the size of the discharge current. The stated capacity of 165 Ah refers to a twenty-hour discharge time with a final discharge voltage of 10.8 V. In other words, the stated capacity applies if we discharge the battery for twenty hours with a current of 0.05 x the stated capacity, ie 0.05 x 165 Ah = 8 , 25 A. The lower this current, the more power we get from the battery and vice versa. The table below shows the dependence of the discharge time (current size) on the usable battery capacity. However, due to the design of gel batteries, the effect of large discharge currents on the total capacity of the battery is relatively small. Within closed battery types, it also withstands large surge current consumptions due to low internal resistance (eg starting).

Lifespan
Cyclic life: 500 cycles at 80% discharge, 750 cycles at 50% discharge and 1800 cycles at 30% discharge. Service life 12 years in operation of continuous (float) charging at 20 ° C. The battery is suitable for both cyclic operation (discharge-charge) and for continuous charging with a low rate of discharge.
